Biography
French mathematician who was a pioneer of mathematical analysis. One of the most prolific mathematicians in history, he published nearly 800 research papers and made foundational contributions to calculus, group theory, and complex analysis.
Faith & Testimony
Cauchy was a deeply devout Catholic who publicly defended the faith at the French Academy of Sciences. He organized charitable work for the poor in Paris and supported Catholic missions in Ireland. He said: 'I am a Christian — that is to say, I believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ, with Tycho Brahe, Copernicus, Descartes, Newton, Leibniz, and Pascal.'
