Bishop & Author

Bishop of Liverpool — plain-speaking champion of evangelical faith

Biography

First Anglican Bishop of Liverpool and one of the most influential evangelical writers of the Victorian era. His books 'Holiness,' 'Practical Religion,' and 'Expository Thoughts on the Gospels' remain widely read today. He championed evangelical Reformed theology within the Church of England.

Faith & Testimony

Ryle was a robust, plain-speaking Calvinist who made deep theology accessible to ordinary people. Ruined financially early in life, he entered the ministry and never looked back. His writing style — direct, clear, and saturated with Scripture — has made his works enduring classics of Protestant devotional literature.
