Biography
Indian social reformer, scholar, and champion of women's rights who was the first woman to be awarded the title Pandita (scholar) for her mastery of Sanskrit. She founded the Mukti Mission to rescue child brides, widows, and orphans.
Faith & Testimony
Born a high-caste Hindu, Ramabai converted to Christianity in England in 1883 after being deeply moved by the love she witnessed among Christians. She translated the Bible into Marathi and led a remarkable revival at Mukti Mission in 1905. She said: 'Christ has set me free.'
