September 3, 1889 – c. 1929
Indian Evangelist & Mystic
Without Christ I was a fish out of water — with Christ, in the ocean of love
Biography
Known as the 'Apostle with Bleeding Feet,' Sundar Singh was a Sikh who converted to Christianity at age 15 after a vision of Christ. He wandered India barefoot in the saffron robes of a sadhu (holy man), preaching the gospel.
Faith & Testimony
After his conversion, Sundar Singh was disowned by his family and poisoned by his uncle. He adopted the life of a wandering sadhu to present Christ in a way culturally accessible to Indians. He disappeared in 1929 while on a mission trip to Tibet. He said: 'Without Christ I was like a fish out of water; with Christ I am in the ocean of love.'
