Biography

English Puritan pastor who served at St. Ann Blackfriars in London for 46 years and was a member of the Westminster Assembly. His 'Of Domesticall Duties' was one of the most comprehensive Puritan treatments of family life, and his commentary on Hebrews remained influential for generations.

Gouge was known for his consistent pastoral faithfulness — nearly half a century at one church. As a Westminster divine, he helped craft the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. His practical theology of household piety shaped Puritan family life across England and New England.
