Calvinist evangelist — 25,000 conversions without 'new measures'
Biography
American Calvinist evangelist during the Second Great Awakening who is estimated to have seen over 25,000 conversions through his preaching. Nettleton emphasized God's sovereignty in conversion and opposed the later 'new measures' revivalism that he believed manipulated emotions.
Faith & Testimony
Nettleton represented the Calvinist wing of the Second Great Awakening — he preached for genuine conversion rather than emotional decisions. His hymn collection 'Village Hymns' was widely used. He stood firmly against theological liberalism while maintaining evangelistic passion, proving that Calvinism and evangelism are not contradictory.
