Returned to the tribe that killed her husband — to share the gospel
Biography
American Christian author, speaker, and missionary. After her husband Jim Elliot was martyred by the Auca (Waorani) people in Ecuador in 1956, she returned to live among the same tribe that killed him, sharing the gospel with them. She wrote over 20 books and became one of the most influential Christian women of the 20th century.
Faith & Testimony
Elisabeth's faith was tested by extraordinary suffering — widowed twice, she modeled trust in God's sovereignty through loss. Her books 'Through Gates of Splendor' and 'Shadow of the Almighty' inspired generations. A complementarian and Reformed-leaning thinker, she was deeply respected across evangelical traditions.
